Girls Lacrosse Coach Perspective
This is my first year with West Potomac and I am ecstatic that there is a possibility of getting a turf field. At the last high school where I coached we had a turf field put in and it was a game changer. I would love to see that happen for our Wolverines!
I have seen firsthand how being able to practice on the field where we play our games would help a team’s level of play. For example, how can I expect the girls to master using the width of the field to transition the ball if our practice field is only a fraction of the game field’s size? I can’t. Having a turf field would make our practice sessions much more “game-like” and, just as important, it would improve consistency by allowing us to still practice outside when the weather gets bad. Some people don’t realize that when it is raining or snowing not only does it stop us from going outside that day but it may keep our field muddy for days after the bad weather has ceased. Playing on muddy fields can increase the risk of injury so we are forced to play indoors where we are very limited in what types of drills we can run. Having a turf field would change that!
My hope is that potential donors realize what a positive effect a turf field will have on our programs and will donate even a small amount. Every little bit counts!
