West Potomac High School
Administrators, Staff, Coaches, Students, Parents, Sandburg Parents, Elementary Feeder Schools, Businesses, Community Members: West Potomac High School is an excellent school with extensive AP and advanced courses. Our fine arts departments produce superior musicians, artists and thespians, and our academy program has been designated as a Governor’s Health Sciences Academy, one of the few in the state. To complement our excellent academic programs, WPHS facilities will undergo a major transformation with the addition of two synthetic turf fields to be built in the summer of 2014. Turf fields will provide consistent playing surfaces that will help us remain competitive with the majority of schools that already have these upgraded facilities. There will be fewer practices canceled due to inclement weather and home games will not have to be relocated to rival schools when a grass field would be unplayable. Turf fields also provide safer playing surfaces and our local athletic leagues will benefit with additional permitted field time allocated when not in use by the school. This is truly a community investment that will provide benefits for years to come. We are asking for full community support: WPHS students, parents, and staff; Youth leagues that will directly benefit from more available field time; Fort Hunt, Groveton, and WPHS Alumni Associations contributing to the improvement of your local high school; Sandburg Middle and elementary feeder schools whose students will benefit in the future; and Businesses and neighborhood communities because successful schools with well maintained and attractive facilites will enhance and improve real estate values and create a desirable community to live and conduct business. We are grateful for generous donations pledged to date. However, we must raise $ 50,000 by Feb. 15, 2014 or we will lose our guarantee that these fields will be built in 2014.
